Sunshine for many, rain on Monday

As the May Day Bank Holiday weekend approaches, all eyes turn to the weather.

Overall it is likely to be a reasonable weekend for most of the UK and Ireland.

On Saturday there may be a few showers affecting the coasts of northeast England and East Anglia. For most places it is going to be a dry day with good spells of sunshine as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west. The best of the sunshine is likely through Wales and Ireland.

On Sunday it is likely to be cloudier with a chance of a few showers through parts of the Midlands and East Anglia. More persistent rain passing over Ireland and into western Scotland later, reaching western Wales in the evening.

On Monday the rain will be affecting the southeast through the day, but brighter skies and showers then follow from the west, mainly affecting western coasts and hills.

As always, Weatheronline will keep you up-to-date throughout.

Whatever the weather keep the sun shining!
