Deep low bringing mixed conditions
A deep area of low pressure is going to be passing through Scotland during the next day or so, introducing much more unsettled and windy conditions to most of the British Isles and Ireland.
Heavy rain is likely to be through western Scotland and Ireland during today. This rain then sweeps eastwards through the afternoon, although not reaching southeastern England until after dark. At the same time the winds will be increasing.
Overnight rain will be clearing from the east of the UK. As this happens the winds will increase further through western Scotland and Northern Ireland to be at gale force.
That sets us up for widespread gales over Ireland, Scotland and the higher ground of the far north of England on Wednesday. Gusts could reach 80mph in places leading to minor damage in exposed places. Heavy rain will be through Northern Ireland and southern and central Scotland too.
We'll have to wait until the middle of the day on Thursday before the winds die down properly through the north and then the question of the weekend weather looms large. More on that tomorrow!
Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining!
Simon
