Updated Sunday 30th July 2006. Valid Tuesday 1st August to Wednesday 30th August 2006

Cooler, a mixed month

The overall indications remain much as before, with the beginning of August seeing a change to a 'weak zonal' flow, a more 'Atlantic' feel to the pattern.

High pressure will continue to feature in the expected pattern throughout the pattern, although its influence will be less pronounced, mainly featuring across the south. Mixed through to mid August the fair to fine and warmer. Turning cooler late in the month, remaining largely dry however.

05/08 - 11/08
A weak westerly flow is expected to be established across all areas, low pressure to the northwest, a ridge of high pressure established across England and Wales. Cloudier conditions will run through northern areas producing some showery outbreaks or at times longer spells of rain, further south over England and Wales, showers are more likely. Some eastern and southeastern areas may remain largely dry through to mid-week. Later in the week a trend to generally showery conditions across all areas is expected as pressure falls across the UK.

12/08 - 18/08
Little change is expected with an area slack low pressure sitting over the UK, showers can be expected almost anywhere. Winds are expected to be most light and variable at first, although later in the week, an increasing west to southwesterly breeze will establish through all areas. There is the possibility of an unsettled few days through the latter stages of the week, wet and possibily windy weather crossing all areas.

19/08 - 25/08
Cloud and rain is expected to clear away through the weekend and with pressure then rising strongly all areas are espected to become drier and much warmer with good sunny spells. High pressure settling to the southeast, southern and central areas remaining dry and settled, northwestern areas seeing cloudier spells with some showers on a southwesterly flow.

26/08 - 30/08
High pressure is expected to build through the UK slowly drifting to the west or northwest, dry and fine for most. Showers across the northeast, these extending south down eastern coastal areas of England.
