Thunderstorms edging east, turning fresher over the coming days

After several days of very hot weather, a slow breakdown is underway with a welcome lowering of daytime temperatures. Of course, it's not been hot everywhere, particularly Scotland, western Wales and Ireland where temperatures on Monday only reach 20C at best.

But it will be the thunderstorms that breakout over the next couple of days which cause the weather headlines. They should be fairly well isolated, but where they do occur they could be torrential. Wales, the Midlands and southern England are at highest risk of the thunderstorms.

On Wednesday the thunderstorms are likely to become more widespread over most of England, Wales and northern England with torrential downpours once again, especially over southern and southeastern England.

Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining.
