Dry days, but a question mark hangs for Wednesday/Thursday

Okay, so it's not an easy life being a weather forecaster (that's not true actually, it's the best job in the world!).

Sometimes we get confusing signals from models as to how the weather is going to develop in the days ahead, although we can be more confident in the overall evolution of the weather pattern as a whole. This is one of those occasions.

I'm happy with my longer range predictions of high pressure building through September and the month being predominately featuring dry, sunny conditions. However, there are a couple of questions that are troubling my mind.

The first is the sea temperatures west of the UK and Ireland. These are warm at the moment suggesting more of a propensity for lower pressure in the Atlantic. Will these change and what happens if a large hurricane forms in the States and heads over to the UK, would this trouble the forecast pattern?

Secondly, there is a suggestion that we could see heavy rain through the Midlands, southern and southeast England on Wednesday into Thursday as a cold front moves south. Now, I think the chance of this is low and I suspect it'll more likely be heavier outbreaks of showery rain giving locally high totals of perhaps 10mm or so. I'm watching this one carefully though and will keep you informed.

Whatever the weather, keep the sun shining.
Simon
