Turning cooler and more unsettled

High pressure over eastern Europe has been, and will be preventing low pressure areas making too much in-roads from the Atlantic over the next couple of days. Fronts will move eastwards but will weaken as the cross the UK. Indications are that conditions may well change into next week as the jet stream becomes more firmly established,. high pressure to the east collapses, and a more unsettled weather regime becomes established.

Saturday 16/9/06
Quite a dull morning for most of England and Wales with outbreaks of drizzle in places. These should clear away to leave brighter spells for many and becoming warm too. Low pressure over western Ireland bringing rain here, some of it heavy, and this reaching western Ireland, western coasts of England and Wales may see low cloud and drizzle, together with fog. Breezy in the west. Tops at 25C in southern England, 16C in western Scotland.

Sunday 17/9/06
Fronts will be reluctant to clear eastwards on Sunday. Expect further rain to the west and southwest, with some heavy bursts of Scotland and Ireland. A brighter start in the Midlands, but clouding over in all but eastern England with some outbreaks of showery rain in the afternoon. Warm again, especially in the east and this could trigger an odd thunderstorm. Tops at 23C in eastern England, nearer 19C in Ireland.

Monday 18/9/06
A more vigorous are of low pressure looks set to move through Ireland on Monday. Heavy rain and strong winds may be the order of the day here, these affecting Wales, much of western and southwest England and Scotland. Drier to the east at first, but the rain arriving here later. Highs at 16 to 20C.
