Pressure is low, the weather stays changeable

Autumn really does feel like it is here now doesn't it? Yesterday I noticed that the leaves are starting to fall from the trees, a sure reminder that summer is now long gone. However, October can bring some pleasant sunshine and the weather charts are hinting that this could be the case, although we will need to wait another 7-days or so before we get to find out whether the charts are right or not.

Thursday 5/10.06
A ridge of high pressure brings mainly fine conditions to most of the UK. Increasing cloud across Ireland and western Scotland sees rain arrive here by the evening, with an increasing wind. Keep a close eye on the forecast for Thursday as a change in timings could mean the difference between a wet and windy day, or sunny and dry. Highs near 14 to 17C for most.

Friday 6/10/06
Rain passes east associated with a cold front as low pressure settled north of Scotland. The rain may be reluctant to clear eastern and southern parts of England, with heavy showers following to western Scotland. Elsewhere a few sunny spells come through, but there will be heavy showers too. A windy day for all with gales in northern Scotland. Tops near 12 to 17C.

Saturday 7/10/06
A southwest flow becomes established with high pressure building to the south, but low pressure north of Scotland. Rain may trail through Scotland and Northern Ireland leading to a wet day here. More southern areas should be brighter and drier with sunny spells, although western coasts of Wales and England may well see low cloud and drizzle. Tops near 12C in northern Scotland, 19C in the far south of England.

Sunday 8/10/06
Little change e through Sunday, although the high is more intense to the south, and the front remains trailing southwestwards through Scotland and Ireland. More rain to come through these areas, some of it heavy with a chance we may see some local flooding in western Scotland and parts of Ireland. Drier for England and Wales and very warm too, possibly to 22C in the southeast, nearer 14C in northern Scotland.

Monday 9/10/06
Rain may well clear from Scotland as low pressure drifts to be west of Ireland. Here it may well stay cloudy and damp with strong southerly winds. For most of England, Wales and Scotland it should be a dry day with sunny spells and will be very warm again. Tops near 23C in the southeast, 16C in western Scotland.
