Remaining warm, temperatures above normal
With south to southeasterly winds continuing to dominate the weather, I think that the weather looks set to stay generally warm over the coming few days. Yes, there will be fronts moving in at times bringing cooler temperatures, and there could be a few chilly nights, but overall it's not bad for mid-October. As for rainfall, well most of it looks set to be through the course of this week. By the weekend things should be settling down with a return to drier weather for all as high pressure builds in.

Thursday 12/10/06
A southwesterly flow through the UK and Ireland. There may be some early rain as a cold front clears eastern England, but once that has gone the day should be bright with sunny spells for many. Western coasts may see more in the way of cloud, with some drizzle, with heavier showers in western Scotland and western Ireland. Highs near 15 to 18C.
Friday 13/10/06
A band of heavy rain affecting much of Ireland and western Scotland through the day. Breezy in western areas, gusts to 30mph in the far west. For most of the rest of the Uk it should be dry with morning cloud breaking to give sunny spells, the best of these in the southeast. A warm day in the sunshine, tops perhaps to 22C in the east, nearer 16C in the cloudier skies over western Ireland.
Saturday 14/10/06
A brighter day seems likely through central and eastern parts of England and Scotland, although some showers are likely here later in the afternoon. Further west there will be showers, a few of them heavy at times. Temperatures at 20 to 24C.
Sunday 15/10/06
Another dry day for most on Sunday. There will be sunny spells and it should be feeling warm too. Western Wales, eastern Ireland and western Scotland could be a little cloud at times, with a chance of some drizzle here. Temperatures at 16 to 20C.
Monday 16/10/06
Essentially dry through Monday. The morning is likely to be rather cloudy and drizzly at times. This should break and then sunny spells will be coming through. We need to watch for the risk of some thundery showers into southern Ireland and southwest England later. Temperatures at 15 to 20C.
