Low pressure dominates, but a hint of pressure rising later

Low pressure is going to be in charge of the weather over the first part of the period. The warm weather conditions persist through the southern half of the UK and Ireland, although by next weekend we could be seeing the first of the winter overnight frosts. To the north,,as high pressure builds, things will be cooling off and we may see some of those night time frosts earlier in the forecast period.

Tuesday 24/10/06
Low pressure still controlling the weather on Tuesday, but by then most of the rain and showers seem set to be through southern Scotland and northern England. For much of southern England and Wales the day should be drier and brighter with some sunny spells for most. Highs around 15C in the south, just 8C in central Scotland.

Wednesday 25/10/06
Low pressure is again expected to form to the west of the Bay of Biscay area. This will be throwing bands of rain northwards to be through Ireland and southern parts of England, in a strengthening east wind. Further rain may move through the Midlands and East Anglia. Most of Scotland should be dry as pressure builds to the north, bringing sunshine to northern Scotland. Becoming muggy in the south at 16C, but nearer 10C over central Scotland.

Thursday 26/10/06
Heavier rain and strong winds through much of England and Wales as a front moves north, local flooding is possible in the far south. Patchy drizzle for southern Scotland, with the rain reaching here later. Northern Scotland should stay drier with some bright spells. Highs at a warm 16C in the far south, 10C in eastern Scotland.

Friday 27/10/06
A change in conditions as high pressure builds in for Friday. This will be bringing some welcome fine weather to much of England and Wales. For Scotland there could be cloud and the remnants of overnight rain, this also affecting Northern Ireland. It may become windy in the northwest too. Highs at a much cooler 14C in southern England, 9 to 10C in Scotland and northern England.

Saturday 28/10/06
The high pressure holds for the far south on Saturday, so after an overnight frost and some mist and fog patches the day should be fine and dry. For Scotland and Ireland there will be more cloud and rain around, with the winds staying strong in the west. Tops at 10 to 15C.
