The Month Ahead 30 Day Outlook seiten=2 abk=mo

Updated Monday 6th November 2006. Valid Monday 6th November to Wednesday 6th December 2006

Plenty of dry weather, and colder

For sometime now there have been indications in our patterns that high pressure would begin to control the flow close to the United Kingdom during the early part of November. However 'the devil is always in the detail'; slight variations in flow can produce varied conditions over a short space of time therefore predicting exactly where 'the block' will settle of major importance.
There are hints that high pressure will be over or close to the United Kingdom through the early part of the period, settling to the south or southeast for a time before collapsing with unsettled conditions prior to mid-month.. Thereafter there is the possibility that pressure will build quite strongly in mid-Atlantic, we could therefore see our first outbreak of 'true artic air' around mid-November? If this pattern holds then the latter stages of November could be cool to quite cold with a predominantly northerly to northwesterly flow?

11/11 - 17/11
Quite mild in most parts through the early part of the period with low pressure crossing to the northwest, breezy across Scotland and Northern Ireland with gales. Rain will effect all areas with heaviest outbreaks across western and northrwestern areas of the UK, drier to the south and east with higher pressure over the near Continent. Some sunny spells across England and Wales with patchy mist or fog where winds fall light. Becoming windy everywhere for a time rain pushing south and east through the early part of the week and turning cooler as winds swing west then northwest. Hints that it may well turn much colder through the latter stages of the week, northerly winds bringing snow showers to high ground over the north. Brighter to the south but rather cold.

18/11 - 24/11
High pressure in mid-Atlantic, low to the northeast a cold feed of Artic air flooding south, snow showers over the north perhaps sleet for a time over the higher ground of southern England. Pressure beginning to rise through western areas, fog and frost widespread at night, sunny spells through the day where it lifts. Some showers continuing through northeastern and eastern areas. Cold everywhere.

25/11 - 01/12
With high pressure persisting to the west or northwest, air will continue to be fed through the UK from either the north or northwest, so always a cool to cold direction. There is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving around the northern flank of this anticyclone, areas of cloud and rain accompanied with slightly 'less cold' air pushing southeast through although, mainly rather chilly for the most part. Indications that it may once again turn rather cold with a stronger northerly breeze setting in by the end of the week.
02/12 - 06/12
High pressure should be building in settling conditions down, fog and frost will become widespread and may linger through central areas, keeping it rather cold. High pressure should dominate through the period, western areas becoming milder as a strengthening south to southeasterly breeze develops with showery outbreaks of rain.
