Tornado wakes residents and causes significant damage

A tornado has passed through a Welsh village overnight, wreaking havoc as it passed through.

The village of Bow Street, just north of Aberystwyth was hit by the tempest during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Residents report the storms striking around 0115 GMT.

A trail of damage was left in its wake including an overturned caravan and damaged rooves, with the debris leading to the main road through the village being close for several hours overnight.

The tornado appears to have occured as a frontal system passed through Aberystwyth, heading northeastwards.

Impressively the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) has issued a tornado watch at 0055hrs, just 20 minutes before the tornado hit.

I know the area well, and the topography may have assisted in the formation of the tornado. No doubt more news will be available during the day. Torndo site investogators are en-route.
