Exceptionally mild conditions from the southwest

November can be a very topsy-turvey month; one day it's cold, the next is very warm, and this month seems no exception. As high pressure drifts around the coasts of the UK and Ireland, subtle changes in wind direction will be making a big difference. Sharp contrasts in temperatures across the country too, with 17C possible in the far southwest of England on Friday and 12C in northern Scotland at the same time.

Thursday 9/11/06
A weak cold front affecting the south of Ireland, England and Wales on Thursday. This is probably going to be producing some outbreaks of rain or drizzle, most of it generally light. Conditions turning cooler across Scotland, Ireland and northern England as a brisk northwest airflow sets in. This is likely to bring some showers, a few of them hefty to the windward facing colasts of Scotland and northwest England. The showers could be wintry over norther Scotland. PLaces sheltered from the wind, such as northeast England, should be drier. Highs at 7C in western Scotland, 12C in southern England.

Friday 10/11/06
High pressure building back across the UK and Ireland. It is probably going to be a fogg start, possibly frosty, through much of England, Wales and eastern Scotland. This slowly clearing to leave it dry with sunny spells. For Ireland and western Scotland expect more cloud, perhaps producing some drizzle on the coasts. POssibly very warm in the southwest at 17C, cooler in the east at 12C.

Saturday 11/11/06
Higher pressure in the south, but pressure strating to fall in the north. A cold front may bring stronger winds and some rain to northern and western Scotland, this pushing into Northern ireland. For much of England and Wales a foggy morning again, but this clearing, then mainly dry with the best of the sunshine in the south. Still warm at 14 or 15C in the south, 10C in the far north behind the cold front.

Sunday 12/11/06
A breezier day seems likely through more northern areas, perhaps bringing frequent, wintry showers to northern coasts. For most of England, Wales and Ireland it should be a dry day with sunny spells, the best of these in the far southwest. Highs at 14C in the far southwest, 10C in northern Scotland.

Monday 13/11/06
Some rain may be troubling Scotland and Ireland through Monday. However, higher pressure does seem likely to hold on in the south; it should be dry here with temperatures around 14C in the far south, 10C in the far north.
