Spain: Floods Flooding forces evacuations seiten=2 abk=feature
MADRID, June 1, 2008 (AFP) - Storms lashed northern Spain Sunday, causing flooding that closed roads and forced the evacuation of dozens of people, emergency services said. Spanish media said around 15,000 homes were without electricity in the Basque region, where flooding and fallen trees closed roads around the city of Bilbao. The town of Getxo, near Bilbao, was particularly badly hit, with around 50 people evacuated, a representative of the Basque government's emergency services said. The regional Basque government held a crisis meeting to coordinate rescue efforts. In the neighbouring region of Cantabria, roads were also flooded near the city of Santander.
