MIAMI, Aug 17, 2011 (AFP) - Tropical storm Greg, newly-formed off the southern coast of Mexico, was expected to reach hurricane strength over the next 24 hours, US weather forecasters said on Wednesday. At 0900 GMT Greg was about 135 miles (220 kilometers) south-southwest of Zihuatane, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of about 40 miles (65 kilometers) per hour. "Additional strengthening is expected and Greg is forecast to become a hurricane on Thursday," the Miami based National Hurricane Center said. The storm, moving at around 16 miles (26 kilometers) per hour, posed no immediate risk to land, the US weather service said.
