World Weather Mexico: Tropical depression Ten seiten=2 abk=feature

MEXICO CITY, Sept 13, 2013 (AFP) - A moderate tropical depression formed Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico, authorities said, threatening dangerous flooding in eastern parts of the country. At 0300 GMT, Tropical Depression Ten was located around 145 miles (235 kilometers) east of Veracruz, Mexico's National Weather Service (SMN) said. The US National Hurricane Center said the storm, which was packing maximum sustained winds of up to 35 miles per hour, could bring "life-threatening flooding" over parts of eastern Mexico. Mexican authorities said the storm could cause severe flooding and landslides in mountainous regions. State oil company Pemex meanwhile said it had preemptively suspended "sea and air operations" in the area although rigs in the region continued to operate. Heavy rain has lashed Veracruz this week, leaving at least 13 people dead after triggering a landslide in a mountainous region of the Gulf Coast state.
