Scottish flooding today

The Weatheronline radar picture this morning shows rain continuing to fall through the Irish Sea, northern England and southern Scotland this morning. It’s heavy in places, with Glasgow having 42mm of rain in the past 24 hours.

It does seem that the heavy rain is going to be persisting during the course of the day, probably most of it through this morning and the early part of the afternoon.

It will be southern parts of Scotland, particularly Dumfries & Galloway, Borders and the northern parts of the Pennines which are at risk from most of the rain.

There is likely to be a further 20-30mm of rain in places, and this will be leading to localised flooding.

Roads wil be carrying a lot of surface water, and so spray will be reducing visibility. Hills are likely to be shrouded in low cloud causing fog.

Extra care should be taken when travelling.
