Alpine weather outlook
Foehn dying at last

The prominent foehn pattern of the last few days will finally come to an end. Very mild again Wednesday and Thursday, 12C to 17C From the Bernese Oberland, to Liechtenstein and Garmisch. The heavy rain and snow in the Ticino and the southern part of the Swiss Alps will gradually retreat towards southwest.

Wednesday - less rain and snow than recent for the Ticino, but still heavy rain over the Valais and French Alps. Snowline around 1,700m asl. Northern and eastern Alps mainly dry, but persistent valley fog for all areas below 1,000m asl likely. Partly cloudy and sunny periods above the thick fog layer only.

Thursday - still some rain at times for the Ticino and French Alps, falling as snow above 1,800m asl. Otherwise mostly dry. Central Alps, Bavarian Alps and Austria will have a good deal of sun, but only away from the valleys. Otherwise slow-lifting fog and low cloud. Freezing level around 3,000m.

Friday - the foehn has vanished. Mostly dry under the increasing influence of high-pressure. The fly in the ointment - the persistent valley fog. Top temperatures around 2C and 8C. But 8C to 12C on higher ground.
