High pressure that has for a considerable time dominated the weather pattern across the United Kingdom is likely to be less of a feature through to the end of January. Any anticyclonic influence is expected to be transient and short-lived mainly seen as ridges crossing between pressure systems, in what is likely to be a very changeable and unsettled period. Our weather is expected to mainly originate from the west or northwest, coming in off the Atlantic Ocean, a much milder direction than recently.
There is little to indicate a return of any protracted anticyclonic activity in the short or mid-term period, the opening week of February expected to continue in a very changeable and mobile mood, with a mobile and rather windy spell indicated through the latter. However towards the middle of February some drier and more settled weather is indicated, more especially for the southern half of the British Isles.
