Gales for UK, France, Germany, Low Countries and Scandinavia
Today
The door has opened to cold air draining into the northern parts of Europe. Low pressure over southern Scandinavia will be bringing snow and snow showers to much of southern Sweden and Norway. Showers through Denmark and Germany, these wintry over the UK. Windy across northern Germany and Poland with gales for Denmark.
Brighter in central parts of France, although a few showers in the north, with a narrow band of rain extending through northern Iberia, southern France, the Alps, Austria and into the Ukraine. Snow may be heavy over the Alps. For much of the rest of Portugal and southern Spain as well as the central Mediterranean, much of Italy, Greece and Turkey, the weather will be dry with plenty of sunshine and also feeling warm.
Monday
High pressure to the west of Ireland bringing a cold, northerly plunge southwards. Wintry showers and sunny spells in the UK and Ireland. More persistent and sometimes heavy rain into the north of Spain and southern France, this rain extending through northern Italy, Austria and Hungary. More heavy snow on the Alps. Wintry showers on northern coasts of Germany and Denmark, with snow showers through the Baltic States and southern Sweden. Apart from snow showers on the coasts of Norway, much of Scandinavia should be cold, but dry.
A significant change in conditions over Iberia and colder air and low pressure push south into these areas. Showers on the western coasts of Portugal, whilst much of southern Spain should stay dry although will be significantly cooler. Showers and rain may get into eastern Spain and the Balearics later in the day. Southern Italy should stay dry with more sunshine, with further spells of sunshine and dry, warm weather in Greece and Turkey.
