Very unsettled in heavy rain, brighter Mediterranean
Today
Heavy rain and strong winds sweeping through the UK and Ireland, bringing gales to the south of these countries. Most of France is going to be wet too, with the heaviest rain in the north and west and gales in the far north. Outbreaks of rain in the far northwest of Spain. The unsettled, wet weather sweeps through the Low Countries and Germany during the day and again this will be heavy in the north, bringing strong winds. Rain for Switzerland too.
For most of Scandinavia the day should be dry, although a few snow showers can't be ruled out over Sweden with more persistent snow for Finland and the Baltic States. Sleet and snow also extending through Belarus, Ukraine and into Bulgaria and Romania.
Further south the rest of Spain and Portugal should be dry and warm with good spells of sunshine and light winds. The fine weather extending through the Balearics and most of Italy.
Scattered showers in the former Yugoslavia but these becoming heavier as they reach Greece. Further heavy periods of showers and rain through the Aegean and western parts of Turkey. The rest of Turkey and Cyprus the day should be dry with sunny spells.
Wednesday
Little change for most places today with the north of Europe having the most unsettled of conditions. Periods of rain and showers passing through the UK, France, Germany, the Low Countries and Switzerland. Further heavy rain through southern parts of Norway as well as Denmark. Windy in these areas with gales and possible 80mph gusts in parts of Denmark and northern Germany. It will be staying wet through Poland although the rain falling as snow here. The snow extends north towards southern Sweden, the Ukraine and Belarus. Staying windy in these areas too.
A few showers in the far west of Portugal, but the rest of Iberia should be dry with sunny spells. It will be staying dry in the western Mediterranean with sunny spells through the Balearics, whilst the southern coasts of France should escape with a dry day. An area of rain passing through Italy, this reaching the former Yugoslavia during the day.
Most of Greece should be dry in sunny spells, although Turkey will be experiencing further showers.
