Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Heavy rain in central France & northern Spain. Windy in Norway.

Today
Low pressure is going to be firmly in control of conditions through the course of today. Being centred to the northwest of Scotland it will be forcing fronts eastwards through the day. A band of heavy rain and strong winds will stretch from southwest Norway, through the Low Countries, into northern and western France and then onto northern Spain and the far northwest of Portugal. The rain could be heavy at times. Cloud and drizzle will be affecting Denmark, parts of northern Germany and the north of Poland.
For central and southern France there could be an odd shower with a fair amount of cloud, with more cloud and a few showers for the Alps. Heavier showers affecting northern Italy and southeast France.
Sweden is going to have some snow showers, as will the Baltic Stats.
For much of southern Portugal, central and southern Spain as well as the Balearics the day should be dry with sunny spells and light winds. The former Yugoslavia looks set to stay dry too with sunshine here, and the fine conditions extending into Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. Cyprus and Israel should have a fair day, although showers are a possibility later.

Wednesday
More unsettled weather for much of Europe. Heavy rain and strong winds look set to be affecting the south of the British isles. This heavy rain moving into the west of France and through Spain and Portugal, where some of the rain could be particularly heavy. Windy here too and feeling cold. Showery rain into the Balearics, and this spreading into the Alps and then up through Austria and the east of Germany. Many eastern parts of France, the Low Countries and Germany should be staying drier with some sunshine to come here.
Across Denmark and most of Norway and Sweden there will be plenty of cloud and some outbreaks of rain, some heavy in the west. A breezy day into Baltic States and Finland.
Most of eastern Europe should stay dry, with most of Belarus, the Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania remaining fine. This fine weather extends through the former Yugoslavia and into Greece. Turkey should stay generally dry too, although there is a threat of a shower over the mountains. Crete and Cyprus as well as Israel should all be dry with some sunny spells.
