Heavy snow for southern Germany, Alpine Region spreading east
Today
Very cold and looking quite wintry across some parts of northern and eastern Europe today and we'll see outbreaks of snow falling across much of Germany with a risk of some heavy snow in the south and over the Alpine Region and into the former Czech Republic. The heavy snow will be accompanied by gales making the snow drift. A few showers are expected across France, eastern parts of England an around the coasts of Belgium, Holland and Denmark, otherwise fair and mainly dry. With deep low pressure near Italy, a swirl of heavy showers and heavy rain will affect Italy, Greece, the former Yugoslavia and parts of Bulgaria through the day. Feeling cold across the north of Spain with showers.
Fine and dry to the south and across Portugal with sunny spells and warmer here. Very cold across Scandinavia but apart from a few snow showers across southern Sweden, it's largely dry with sunny spells. Dry, cold and sunny today with a few sleety showers around the coasts of the Baltic States.
Thursday
High pressure across the United Kingdom will give England, the north of France and The Low Countries a dry, bright day. The north of Germany too looks drier with some sunshine coming through. The wintry weather is expected to persist across southern Germany, The Alpine Region, the former Czech Republic and Romania with more snow on the way. Gales are also likely to persist. An area of rain is expected across Greece with showers across Italy. Heavy showers are likely for Corsica and Sardinia today.
Western parts of France along with Iberia will enjoy the best of the weather with a dry, sunny day to come. Cold for Scandinavia and mainly dry though rain will push into the far west of Norway in the afternoon after a frosty morning. There is a risk of heavy snow for the south of Poland and across The Ukraine today while Belarus and the Baltic States are cold and sunny. Showers will move into the far west of Turkey, otherwise expect sunny spells and a lot of dry weather.
