Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling
Frost and fog through central areas today, but a change on Sunday in the northwest
Today
High pressure is going to be in charge of the weather over much of central and western Europe through today. This is going to be bringing fine conditions through Spain and Portugal, the Balearics as well as in France. There may be a frost at first in France and this frost troubling the Low Countries, Germany and Poland. Frog patches may be a problem too and these could be slow to clear through the day. Where they do clear conditions should become fine and dry with good spells of sunshine.
A fair day through Switzerland, although rather breezy. More unsettled weather in the central and southern parts of Italy and the former Yugoslavia, courtesy of an area of low pressure. This will be bringing some pretty heavy bursts of rain at times. More heavy rain extending into the northern parts of Greece and trough southern Bulgaria. For Turkey though it should be dry with sunny spells, and staying fine in Crete and Cyprus too.
Heading north and the Baltic States will be cold and sunny. Cloud increasing later, making the sunshine hazy. Similar weather in Finland where it will be cold and sunny, but the cloud increasing from the west later. More hazy sunshine and dry weather in Denmark and southern Sweden, but some drizzle on the coasts of southern Norway, with more persistent rain further north.
Sunday
A change in conditions for Sunday as low pressure moves into the British Isles. This will be bringing rain and showers here, and this rain will be plunging into the northwest of France in the afternoon. To the south though conditions stay fine, with Spain and Portugal both enjoying fine days. For the rest of France it is going to be staying dry too with some more sunshine to come here. There will be sunny spells through the Low Countries, although the winds increasing here. Germany should stay dry after early frost and fog, with some sunshine. Similar weather in Poland.
Cloudier in Hungary with a risk of a shower, whilst Austria stays dry with some sunshine. Morning frost and fog over Switzerland and inland areas of northern Italy, the fog perhaps not clearing some places all day. For southern Italy and the former Yugoslavia there may still be some showers, but also a few sunny spells. Greece will be more unsettled with strong winds and rain here, some of it heavy in the north. Strong winds and a threat of rain and snow in Bulgaria and Romania.
Hazy sunshine in the Baltic States, but a threat of drizzle on the coasts. Some cloud and a threat of spots of rain in Finland as well, although brighter inland. Dry with variable cloud in Sweden and Norway, with sunnier skies for Denmark.
