High pressure dominates as the weather stays mostly dry
An area of high pressure is going to be controlling the weather across the UK and Ireland through the week ahead. The high will be changing position and so the weather underneath it will change day to day. Generally through it should be dry with temperatures around normal for the time of year, although these vary considerably.

Friday 18/3/11
Low pressure remains in control of the weather through Saturday. This is going to be bringing lots of cloud across the country with outbreaks of rain focused to the west and south. Most of these are going to be light. The highest chance of some brightness is over eastern England, although even here it is likely to cloud over in the afternoon. Brighter skies may move into Ireland and western Scotland although it will not be long before showers follow here. Tops near 4C in northern Scotland, 12C in southeast England.
Saturday 19/3/11
A large area of high pressure builds into the country through Saturday, centred across western France. This is going to be bringing plenty of fair weather for many areas, although there will be some thicker cloud affecting the north of Scotland bringing the threat of some patchy rain here. Highs at 9 to 14C.
Sunday 20/3/11
High pressure will be to the east of the country on Sunday. More fair weather to come for most of the country, perhaps cloudier than Saturday as the winds turn more to the east. The best of the sunshine tending to be through more western areas, although increasing winds and cloud into western Ireland and western Scotland later. Highs around 8 to 12C.
Monday 21/3/11
The area of high pressure continues to affect the country through Monday. Scotland and the north and west of Ireland are likely to become cloudier with some outbreaks of rain and it will be breezier here too. For the southern half of the country skies will be brighter with some sunny spells breaking through. Highs near 8 to 12C.
Tuesday 22/3/11
Pressure remains high through the southern half of the country on Tuesday, although it may become rather windy along southern coasts of England. fair here with some bright or sunny spells developing. To the north there will be more cloud and it may be fairly breezy too with some outbreaks of rain at times on western and northern coasts. Highs at 14C in southern areas, 9C in northern Scotland.
Wednesday 23/3/11
The area of high pressure will be dominating the weather again on Wednesday. It should be a fair day and dry too with sunny spells developing. There will be cloud and some spots of drizzle around northern coasts of Scotland. Highs at 10 to 15C.
