Hot in eastern Europe and Scandinavia


Thursday
Low pressure dominates north-west Europe, whilst high pressure over Russia feeds a warm southerly airflow across eastern Europe. Showery conditions affect Portugal with a scattering of thunderstorms. Northern Spain is cool and showery, whilst southern Spain should see sunny spells. Warm in Italy, but some thundery rain, mostly in the north. Also warm in Greece and Turkey, with sunshine and a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. The Balkan states should see very little if any rain. France will see heavy bursts of rain and thunderstorms, also affecting Switzerland and western areas of Germany. Eastern Germany and Poland will be hot and humid. Sunshine and very warm temperatures for Sweden, the Baltic States and Finland. Norway will see heavy rain in the west followed by a few heavy showers.

Western Europe stays unsettled on Friday under a broad area of low pressure, whilst high pressure to the east continues to bring warm temperatures. Northern Spain and Portugal are cool and showery, with drier and sunnier skies in the south. France remains wet with heavy rain and showers. Northern Italy and the Alps are also unsettled with some heavy rain and thunderstorms. Southern Italy is brighter. A few showers for Greece and Turkey but also plenty of warm sunshine. Hot weather in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland, generally dry and sunny with isolated thunderstorms. The Baltic states, Sweden and Finland stay very warm with sunshine, whilst rain affects Norway. Heavy bursts of rain for Germany, Denmark and the Low Countries.
