Heat begins to break into thunderstorms in Scandinavia

Friday
Low pressure and thundery rain dominates western Europe on Friday. High pressure over Russia continues to bring some very warm temperatures to eastern Europe. Northern Spain and Portugal are cool and showery, with drier and sunnier skies in the south. France remains wet with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Northern Italy, Switzerland and western parts of Austria are also unsettled with some heavy rain and thunderstorms. Southern Italy is brighter, but there may still be some heavy showers. A scattering of thunderstorms for Greece and Turkey but also plenty of warm sunshine. Hot in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland, generally dry and sunny with isolated thunderstorms in the late afternoon. The Baltic states, Sweden and Finland stay very warm with sunshine, whilst rain affects Norway. Heavy bursts of rain for Germany, Denmark and the Low Countries.

Saturday
Some heavy showers breaking out on Saturday afternoon across Spain and Portugal but also spells of warm sunshine. Still a few thundery showers in northern and western France, whilst southern France is drier with sunshine. Northern Italy will see sunny spells, whilst there may be thunderstorms further south. Greece, Turkey and the Balkan States are expected to see sunny spells but thunderstorms breaking out widely by afternoon. Rain spreads north across Germany, and there may be some thundery bursts in the Netherlands and Belgium. It stays hot in eastern Europe and Scandinavia, but thundery rain develops in western Poland and the Czech Republic. Thunderstorms are likely to break out in Sweden as a cold front moves into the Baltic. Further east Russia and the Baltic states remain dry and very warm.
