Snow spreads south across eastern Europe

Saturday
Mostly dry and bright for Spain and Portugal. A few showers near southern and northern coasts and feeling chilly in a north-east breeze, particularly northern Iberia. Low pressure continues to bring heavy slow moving and thundery showers for Italy, the Mediterranean islands, plus western parts of Greece and the Balkan states. Brighter for the Greek Islands, but scattered showers for Turkey. A cold wind continues to affect France and the Alpine region, although it is broadly dry with some sunshine. Dry with some sunshine for Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, although more cloud in the north and feeling chilly in the wind. Low pressure pushes south across Scandinavia, bringing north-westerly gales and heavy snow to Norway and northern Sweden. Windy and largely dry for Denmark and southern Sweden, although increasing chilly as a weak cold front pushes south. Snow also affects Finland and the Baltic States.

Sunday
High pressure influences most of western Europe on Sunday, whilst low pressure affects the east and south-east. Strong and cold northerly winds continue to affect Scandinavia, gales in the Baltic and frequent snow showers. Further rain and snow spreads from the west into the west of Norway. Snow showers also spread southwards across eastern Europe, affecting Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania, also extending west into eastern Germany, also Austria and Hungary. Dry overall for western Germany, Switzerland and the Low Countries. Showery too for Greece and Turkey, with a mix of rain or snow, hail and possible thunder. Showers affect southern Italy although it will be drier toward the north. Broadly dry for France and the western Mediterranean, but locally gale force winds through the Alps and southern France. A cool wind continues to affect Spain and Portugal, although it will be dry and bright. A few showers near the coasts of Andalucia and the Algarve.
