Increasingly thundery for central-western areas
Friday
Heatwave conditions extend across much of Europe again on Friday, highest temperatures in the east and south. Breezy and dry for Portugal. Scattered thundery showers for eastern Spain. A few thunderstorms too for southern Italy and Sicily, also Greece and western Turkey. Mainly dry for France, but a lot of cloud and some patchy rain in central areas. Local heavy showers in northern Germany, may develop into an extensive band of thunderstorms also affecting Belgium and the Netherlands later. Thundery for the Swiss Alps, and also western Austria. Hot and dry for Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Very warm too in southern Sweden. Rain affects much of Norway, although mainly dry in south. Dry and warm for Finland.
Saturday
Thunderstorms spread from the Pyrenees into south-west France in the early hours of Saturday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to become extensive across central France during the day. Scattered storms continue for eastern Spain, although most of Spain & Portugal will be dry, sunny and hot. The remnants of overnight thundery rain will also continue for northern Germany, although easing by Saturday morning. However, storms may again develop across central Europe by afternoon and evening. Temperatures again into the high 30s Celsius for Germany, southern and eastern Europe. Scattered thunderstorms again for southern Italy and Greece. Mainly dry for Scandinavia, although some rain may affect southern Sweden. Showery in north-west Norway. Risk of persistent rain in far north of Sweden and Finland.
