Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Mild or warm in west & central Europe

Thursday
Much of Spain and Portugal stay dry and warm, although strong winds and rain affect the far north-west of Iberia. Low pressure over Italy brings bursts of heavy rain and thunderstorms, also affecting the western Balkans. Dry and breezy for Greece and Turkey. Showery for Cyprus. Much of France will be dry and mild, although patchy drizzle and a fresh breeze affects Brittany and the Biscay coast. Dry weather extends across central Europe, with fairly mild temperatures around 16C. Partly cloudy for Germany and the Low Countries. High pressure continues to reside over eastern Europe and Scandinavia, bringing settled weather and mostly light winds. Some low cloud, and feeling cool in the Baltic region.

Friday
High pressure stays situated over eastern Europe and Russia, whilst low pressure is to the west. This promotes a generally mild or warm southerly pattern across much of the continent. Dry, warm and sunny for Spain and Portugal, although breezy in the north-west, where rain threatens the coast. Fair weather across the western Mediterranean. Heavy thundery rain persists across southern Italy, perhaps pushing into western Greece. The Greek Islands and Turkey stay dry and breezy. A warm and largely sunny day across France, with highs of 22C. Dry and mild too across Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, highs 16 to 18C. Fine too across Alpine regions. Much of Scandinavia stays dry, but western Norway will see persistent rain and strong winds.
