February outlook

Conditions look set to remain very unsettled with wet and windy weather continuing to affect all areas of the British Isles. There are indications that somewhat more settled conditions will establish themselves across southern and central areas of England as we approach the middle to latter stages of February, although more northern and western districts of the UK are expected to remain rather changeable through to the beginning of March.

Temperatures should remain close to the seasonal average in most areas, perhaps slightly above normal at times across central and southern areas of England, the occasional cooler period will see temperatures fall back to below the seasonal average, as northwest to northerly winds bring colder air southwards for a time, this more pronounced across northern and northwestern districts. Rainfall amounts are likely to be above normal in most areas, especially through the short and medium term, drier conditions are expected to establish across much of southern Britain during the middle to latter stages of February. Unsettled weather is likely to re-establish across all areas before the end of February, these mobile and changeable conditions expected to continue through the early stages of March.
