Wednesday
Dry and breezy today across the north of Scotland with low cloud then sunny spells. For southern Scotland, all of England, Wales and Northern Ireland expect a cold, frosty morning with widespread, dense fog and freezing fog. Sunnier around the coasts. Dry with hazy sunshine developing through the afternoon but some dense fog patches may linger with north east England and the Midlands most at risk. Expect maximums of 4 to 8C north to south but near freezing where fog lingers.

Wednesday night
Clear and dry this evening with fog and frost soon redeveloping in most places. A cold, clear and misty night to follow with widespread dense fog, freezing fog and frost though a bit milder and cloudier across north west Scotland and Northern Ireland. Lows at lows of -1 to -4C inland with 3 to 5C around coasts and across Northern Ireland.

Thursday
It turns windier with rain for north west Scotland today. For the remainder of the United Kingdom it looks dry with sunny skies after slow clearance of dense freezing fog and frost. Again parts of The Midlands and north east England may well stay foggy through the afternoon. Some rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland this evening and tonight, foggy and frosty for England and Wales. Highs of 3 to 8C.

Friday
Breezy with more rain and drizzle to com across Scotland and Northern Ireland through the day. Little change for England and Wales. Expect a dry day with morning dense fog and frost slowly clearing to sunny spells in most areas in the afternoon, but again it will persist in prone areas. Fog and frost returns in the evening and night. Highs of 2 to 8C.

Saturday
A very strong cell of high pressure will be centred over England today. This will produce little change in the weather. Dense freezing fog will affect most places and will linger in some places right through the day and here it will stay very cold. Outside of the fog expect hazy sunshine but it may take till mid afternoon for the sun to break through. It won't be long before the dense fog and frost redevelops after sunset. Maximums of 3 to 8C with 0C to -1C in foggy areas.
