Thursday
Expect a good deal of low cloud, fog and dense fog and freezing fog across England, Wales, parts of southern England and Northern Ireland this morning. Near zero visibilities will be quite widespread with some icy patches. Less foggy and sunnier across The West Country. Breezy for northern Scotland with some rain in the west today. In the afternoon the fog will thin in some areas to hazy sunshine but many areas will see the fog lingering through the afternoon, particularly through the Midlands and north east England. Look for maximums of 4 to 8C north to south but remaining around the freezing mark in the fog.
Tonight
Breezy and cloudy across Scotland this evening and tonight with some patchy rain. Cloudy but dry for Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it remains dry with widespread and dense fog and freezing fog developing this evening and overnight across much of England and Wales. Lows at lows of 0 to -4C inland with 5 to 7C across Scotland, Northern Ireland and south west England.
Friday
Breezy with more rain and drizzle to com across the north of Scotland through the day. Little change for England and Wales. Expect a dry day with morning dense fog and frost slowly thinning to some sunshine in places but it will also persist through central and north east England all day. Freezing fog and frost returns in the evening and night for most places. Highs of 0 to 8C.
Saturday
High pressure will be centred over England today so we can expect little overall change in the weather. Dense freezing fog will affect most places and will linger in some places right through the day and here it will stay very cold. Outside of the fog expect hazy sunshine, particularly around the coasts. It won't be long before the dense fog and frost redevelops after sunset. Maximums of 3 to 8C with 0C to -1C in foggy areas.
Christmas Eve
With high pressure still over the country, all parts will be dry but once again dense fog, freezing fog and frosts will affect most places. The fog slowly dispersing to some hazy sunshine but the fog not clearing at all from central and northern England. Perhaps not as cold tonight with cloud into East Anglia. Maximums of 4 to 10C.
