Friday
Cold and frosty across much of England and Wales this morning. Grey and misty too with widespread dense, freezing fog. In the afternoon expect a good deal of low cloud and dense fog will linger across central and southern England. Sunnier across western Wales and south west England. Cloudy for Northern Ireland and Scotland with some rain in the north west Look for maximums of 4 to 9C but remaining around freezing where it stays foggy.
Friday Night
Any rain clears the north of Scotland this evening. For the bulk of the United Kingdom it remains dry with widespread and dense fog and freezing fog this evening and overnight. Some icy patches are also likely by morning. Lows at lows of 0 to -3C in the south, 2 to 5C in the north.
Saturday
High pressure will be centred over England today expect little overall change in the weather. Dense freezing fog will affect most places and will linger in some places right through the day and here it will stay very cold. Outside of the fog expect hazy sunshine, particularly around the coasts. It won't be long before the dense fog and frost redevelops after sunset. Maximums of 3 to 8C with 0C in foggy areas.
Christmas Eve
For Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland, Wales and England should have the best of the day's dry sunniest weather with early fog dispersing. But for the bulk of the country it's more of the same with lots of fog and frost. Again the fog could linger across central and eastern England. Perhaps not as cold tonight in the east with cloud into East Anglia. Maximums of 4 to 8 but up to 11C across East Anglia and Cornwall.
Christmas Day
Breezy and mostly cloudy across western Scotland and Northern Ireland with some drizzle though the day. Little change across England and Wales with low cloudy, dense fog and frost in the morning. The fog and cloud tends to persist into the afternoon with the best of the sunshine around the coasts and across The West Country. Tops at 4 to 8C
