Storm force winds affecting much of the UK and Ireland through Sunday morning with gusts to 70mph. At the moment the damaging winds look likely to be across southern Ireland, Wales and northern England during the morning, these passing across northern England and southern Scotland in the afternoon. The heavy rain into western Scotland, Ireland, northwest England, western Wales and southwest England. Dry in other areas. In the afternoon the heavy rain spread through the rest of Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, Wales and southern England. Rain turning more showery in Ireland. Temperatures at 8 to 12C.
New Years Eve Night
Wet and windy celebrations for manyu northern and eastern areas tonight. Gales and gusts to 70mph may affect Scotland and northern England, although these winds decreasing as midnight approaches. We then have heavy, blustery showers following from the west through all areas. Bands of heavy showers will be passing eastwards affecting all areas, although we should find drier weather through Ireland through the early hours. Lows near 4C in Scotland, 7C in southern England

A colder day for Monday in a mix of sunshine and showers. The heaviest of the showers over western coastal areas although everywhere is at risk. The best of the weather over southern parts of England and East Anglia. A breezy day in the north and a warning over severe gales again overnight. Highs at 3 to 7C.
Tuesday
A ridge of high pressure builds fro the Atlantic through Tuesday bringing a drier and brighter start to the day. There may be a morning frost in places too. However, the fair weather will not last as cloud and rain spill through Ireland and reaches western Scotland and western Wales by the evening. Highs near 6 to 11C.
