Early showers then dry Rain in the west later seiten=4 abk=focus
Tuesday
A breezy start to the day across northern and eastern parts of England. There will be some showers at first through northwest England, western Scotland and the west of Wales. These should fade into the afternoon, to leave it mainly dry with sunny spells by late afternoon. Most eastern parts of England and Scotland will be dry with bright or sunny spells, although there is always a risk of some showers in the morning. Further west, cloud will be increasing in Ireland and southwest England, bringing rain here by dark. Temperatures around 6 to 8C overall.
Tuesday night
Becoming wet for all during the course of the night as a warm front spreads eastwards. There could be heavy rain across Northern Ireland before midnight, this then spreading through Wales, England and the rest of Scotland during the early hours. However, because of clear skies and cold air ahead of the rain, there is a chance of some snow preceding across the Scottish Hills and Pennines. Conditions turning more drizzly to the west with low cloud and fog affecting many western and southern coasts. Lows near 3C over northern England, 12C in the southwest.
Wednesday
A damp and windy start to the morning with periods of rain and drizzle for most. Low cloud and fog on western coasts, with the winds to gale force around the coasts of the UK and Ireland too. Heavier rain in the morning over northern Scotland. During the afternoon heavier rain returns to Ireland, Wales, western England and western Scotland with gusts to 50 or 60mph associated with the rain. Elsewhere staying cloudy, breezy and damp. Mild everywhere with temperatures at 9 to 12C.
Thursday
As low pressure moves into the North Sea winds will be turning into the northwest. As this happens Arctic air will temporarily plunge southwards bringing wintry showers to much of Scotland. Strong winds across much of Ireland, Wales and southern England with heavier rain pushing east, perhaps turning to sleet and snow as it clears in the late afternoon and evening. Gusts may reach 60mph in places here. Highs near 10C along southern coasts, 5C in northern Scotland.
