Wednesday
An area of rain clearing away from southeastern England on Wednesday morning. The rain could be heavy at times, leading to a wet rush hour through much of London and the southeast. A few showers for the west and north of Scotland early on, but these should clear. It will be windy through southern Scotland and northern England for a time this morning, but these winds easing in the afternoon. For most the morning is then going to be fine and dry with some good spells of sunshine, thanks to a temporary ridge of high pressure. It may be late in the afternoon before the rain clears from Kent, but for most of the UK and Ireland it should stay dry with good sunny spells throughout. Cloud will be increasing in the west of Ireland, although it should stay dry here as well. A cooler day at 7 to 9C.

Wednesday night
Becoming wet and very windy during the night. By midnight rain is expected to be affecting all but the far south and east of England, and this rain will be heavy in the north and west. The winds will become severe gale to storm force in the north, with gusts to 80mph here. After midnight rain and wind spreads to the rest of the British Isles and Ireland with gales then widespread and the winds again gusting to 80mph. By the end of the night rain will be replaced by heavy showers in Ireland and western Scotland, these falling as snow over the hills of Scotland. Lows near 3 to 7C.

Thursday
A very windy day with widespread gales and damaging gusts of wind. Again the winds may be to 80mph in places. Wet with heavy bursts of rain across southern and southeastern England, this only slowly clearing away to the southeast in the afternoon. Showers to the north and west and those showers could be heavy at times. A few bright spells between the showers, most of these to the east. Temperatures at a mild 12C in the south, 7C in the west of Scotland.

Friday
Pressure looks set to start build through the south on Friday. Most of England and eastern Wales will have an exceptionally day, and it will be breezy too with sunny spells. Low cloud and drizzle could affect western and southern coasts of England and Ireland. More persistent rain affecting Northern Ireland and Scotland, some of it heavy at times. Staying windy, especially in Scotland and Ireland, together with parts of northern England; gales could occur in northern Scotland and northeast England. Highs at 10 to 15C.
