Damp south, cold north Risk of snow for Wednesday seiten=4 abk=focus
Tuesday
A north-south split across the UK and Ireland today. Southern parts of the country are likely to be rather cloudy and damp with outbreaks of drizzle and light rain. Little change through the course of the afternoon either, and it may be misty in places too. Across the mountains of north Wales and the southern Pennines there is a chance of some snow on the highest peaks. Completely different for Scotland and much of Ireland. A much brighter day with plenty of sunshine, and only an occasional shower over western coasts of Scotland. A chilly day to the north with highs at 4C in Aberdeen, much milder to the south at 12C in Plymouth.
Tuesday night
A change in conditions through Tuesday night. Winds will be increasing as more persistent rain moves into Ireland, western Wales and into northern and western England as well as southern Scotland by midnight. By the end of the night all places will be windy, with a risk of severe gales across Northern Ireland, northern England and the south of Scotland, gusts to 70mph here. Heavier bursts of rain passing east through all areas. A widespread frost over central and northern Scotland at first. Northern Ireland may see rain turning to snow for a time as cold air follows from the west later. Lows at -1 to 02C over northern Scotland at first, nearer 10C on southern coasts.
Wednesday
There is a threat of wintry weather across Scotland and Ireland on Wednesday with snow, especially on high ground. Gales over Scotland too with gusts to 80mph and bringing blizzards to some. For England and Wales it will be breezy too with rain in the morning in eastern areas. This clears to the North Sea to be replaced by drier but much colder conditions with scattered showers. Highs at 10C in the far southeast of England, but 4 to 5C over a wide portion of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Thursday
A thoroughly miserable day on Thursday. Widespread severe gales and gusts to 80mph and strong enough to cause some damage. Heavy rain will be affecting many areas with a threat of flooding. Blizzards over the Scottish mountains. Colder, brighter weather may reach western Scotland and western Ireland later, although it will be staying windy here. Temperatures at 7 to 14C.
