Storm force winds Damaging gusts, heavy rain seiten=4 abk=focus
Thursday
A particularly serious day of weather to come. This morning sees winds gusting to 80, possibly even 90mph across a large swathe of southern Ireland, Wales and England. These speeds are high enough to cause damage, blow over high sided vehicles and damage trees. Mixed with the strong winds will be heavy rain which could bring local flooding, especially as the ground is already sodden. The heaviest of the rain passes into Scotland through the morning, falling as snow over the mountains and bringing blizzards here. The rain should eventually clear eastwards during this afternoon, although it will linger across Scotland and through the far southern counties of England. Some sunny spells spreading from the west. Staying windy across England and Wales with gusts to 50 or 60mph, easing across Scotland. Much colder weather spreading into Scotland during the afternoon. Temperatures peaking at 14C in southern England, 5Cin northern Scotland.
Thursday night
Remaining breezy during the night with further cloud and rain over southern coasts of England, this edging into southern Wales. Snow showers will be affecting northern parts of Scotland, whilst southern Scotland may be troubled by showery rain , this falling as snow on the Southern Uplands. In-between. Scotland will have clearer skies and a frost. For the rest of England, Ireland and Wales it should be drier with clearer skies, although do expect showery rain across Northern Ireland. Lows at 0C in central Scotland, holding at 11C over the cloudier coats of southern England.
Friday
Southern counties of England and most of Wales will have a drizzly, cloudy day on Friday with mist and fog affecting the coasts. More persistent rain spreading into Ireland in the afternoon, after a bright start in the north. This rain will be into Wales and possibly southwest Scotland by the evening. Central and eastern parts of England should have a bright start to the day but cloud increasing, bringing an increased threat of patchy rain later. Showers continuing in western Scotland, but brighter to the east. Highs at 14C in southern England and 7C in northern Scotland.
Saturday
After a wet night Saturday morning is likely to be bright through central and eastern England, together with much of eastern Wales. Morning rain clears southeast England and East Anglia with it then brightening up here in the afternoon. Heavy showers will be troubling western coasts of Scotland, England and Ireland, these merging into longer periods of rain towards evening and turning increasingly wintry overnight over the hills of Northern Ireland, northern England and Scotland. Highs near 12C in southeast England, but for much of the country feeling colder at 4 to 7C.
