Wintry start for many Warming later in the week seiten=4 abk=focus
Wednesday
Quite a cloudy start to the morning over most of the country. Three distinct areas of rain and snow to watch out for. The first is through southwest England and south Wales. Here roads are icy with sleet and wet snow falling, several centimetres over high ground. This should ease through the morning. The second area of rain and snow showers are affecting the coasts of East Anglia, these continuing; with the third area into eastern Scotland and northeast England. Here the snow may be more persistent leading to a covering in places. Drizzly rain in Ireland, with cloud here. This afternoon sees further outbreaks of sleet and snow along eastern coasts with some drizzle and sleet too around the coasts of Wales and southwest England. Broken cloud through the Midlands in sunny spells whilst much of Scotland and Ireland also stay cloudy. Temperatures a bit milder at 5C on eastern coasts., 8C in the far southwest, but no higher than 4C in the Midlands and parts of central Ireland.
Wednesday night
Skies clearing quickly for much of Scotland with a widespread and severe frost forming here. Snow showers will be affecting eastern coasts of England, but as the night progresses a band of more persistent snow pushes in from the North Sea across East Anglia, and eventually into the Midlands and southeast England. This could produce a dusting of snow in places, possibly a couple of centimetres in parts of East Anglia. Clear skies and a frost for most of Ireland. Lows near 0 to -4C.
Thursday
Thursday morning sees the northeast wind continuing to blow across southeast England. This will bring a feed of sleet and snow showers across East Anglia and the southeast for much of the morning, although fading slowly in the afternoon. More drizzly conditions moving into the west of Scotland with mist here, and through much of northern England. In between brighter skies. Little change for the afternoon with plenty of cloud for many and more drizzle in Scotland and Northern Ireland, together with mist and fog patches. Temperatures at a cold 3 or 4C in much of England and Wales, but starting to pick up to 6C in western Scotland.
Friday
A milder day, but one that is expected to be damp and drizzly. Warmer air sinks southwards through the British Isles courtesy of a warm front. This will be slowly introducing milder conditions, but also the drizzle and some patchy rain. As the milder air travels over the colder ground the mist and some fog patches will form. Highs near 6 to 8C, but still feeling cool.
