Very cold, sunny Coastal snow showers seiten=4 abk=focus

Tuesday
A cold day right across the United Kingdom with all inland areas starting frosty but dry and sunny though some locally dense patches of freezing fog may not clear central and northern parts of England. Snow showers are likely around western and eastern coasts of England and Wales. In the afternoon it remains sunny and dry but scattered wintry showers will persist around North Sea coasts and around Irish Sea coasts along with western and northern parts of Scotland. High temperatures near 7C in southwest England, but mainly 0 to 4C for most places.

Tonight
Still one or two wintry showers to come this evening and tonight, mainly near North Sea coasts and across the north of Scotland. For the bulk of Britain it's another dry, clear and very cold night with another hard, widespread frost as temperature plummet to -2 to -7C. Some dense freezing fog may also develop across England and Wales.

Wednesday
We should start to see a change later today as high pressure gives way to low pressure coming in off the Atlantic. As rain pushes into south west England it should change over to some light snow across The West Country then across Wales and the far south of England, though amounts look small. Apart from wintry showers around the coast of northern Scotland it looks to be a dry, quite sunny day for the rest of the country but continued cold. Here's where the uncertainty starts as rain spreads north east tonight but we could see snow for Wales, The Midlands, northern England and Scotland, perhaps even southern England. Tops near 3 to 7C.

Thursday
A big question mark over Thursday's forecast with regard to snow. Latest computer guidance suggest milder air will move into England and Wales with rain here and snow across Scotland. Confidence is very low on this with all areas of the United Kingdom possibly at risk of some heavy snow. Hopefully we will be able to firm this up over the next 24 hours.

The threat of significant snow across the UK looks to be with us up to Saturday morning, see the Weatheronline Week Ahead forecast for more information.
