Heavy snow showers Gales in the north, blizzards seiten=4 abk=focus
Monday
Today we'll see the strong and gusty winds veering more to the north as the cold air becomes more enhanced over the next 24 to 48 hours. These winds will be in excess of gale force across Scotland and around the coasts. These gusty winds will continue to feed some heavy snow showers south this morning and give temporary blizzards to the northern hills of Scotland and England. Expect little change then into the afternoon with further heavy snow showers likely but there should be some dry, sunnier spells in between the showers.
While central and southern parts of England may wake up to a light covering of snow, this morning should be very windy but largely dry with lots of sunshine. Later more cloud will develop, perhaps giving a few light wintry showers. In the afternoon it looks as though the showers will become more widespread and heavy with a risk of thunder or hail too. Temperatures will be academic in the winds with highs of 2 to 6C perhaps 8C in the far south with a significant wind chill added in.
Monday night
Still very windy conditions are expected right through the evening and the night though the strongest winds will have gone from northern Scotland. There remains the risk of further snow showers to come across western and eastern parts of the United Kingdom. Overnight it appears the heaviest ones are likely to be in the east, perhaps penetrating into central and south eastern parts of England giving a light accumulation. Lows at 0C in Scotland, 5C in southern England.
Tuesday
Another cold, wintry type of day to come for most places with snow showers, interspersed with sunny intervals. In the afternoon we may see it drying up across the south west of England, Wales and up into north west England. Dry across most inland areas by the evening with a widespread, sharp frost developing overnight under clear skies. Snow showers in the west and east will become fewer overnight. Even colder today with highs at -1 to 5C north to south along with wind chill factors of below zero.
Wednesday
Still quite breezy in that south east quadrant of England otherwise not so windy today. We are expecting a good deal of dry weather to come today with more in the way of sunshine and with less wind, not feeling too bad either. There does remain the risk of a few widely scattered showers of rain or sleet around North Sea coasts and near Cornwall. Late in the afternoon rain, preceded by snow is expected to move into Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Overnight this then spreads into all of Scotland and western Britain. Temperatures at 4 to 8C.
