Patchy rain, brightening Severe gales in north Thursday seiten=4 abk=focus

Wednesday
Rather windy across Britain this morning. The far south of England is looking fair and dry with bright spells. A lot of cloud though for the rest of the country with sporadic outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. In the afternoon it's mainly dry for The Midlands and southern parts of England. Just a few spots of rain then for remaining areas and rather cloudy and windy so feeling cold too. Expect highs of 10 to 13C north to south.

Wednesday Night
Still rather windy with a good deal of cloud across the country this evening and tonight. Less cloud is expected across The Midlands into eastern and south eastern parts of England and mainly dry weather is expected here. A mild night under the cloud and with the winds. Expect lows of 10 to 12C for most places.

Thursday
It becomes very windy today with gales across the north and east and severe gales developing across Scotland. Rain is likely for most areas in the morning with a belt of heavy rain across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. This tracks south into central and southern England in the afternoon with more rain in the north. Gusts to 80 mph are possible across parts of Scotland. As the strong winds veer to the north, it becomes very cold with a risk of snow showers over the Scottish Mountain tonight while the rain clears England. Expect highs of 8 to 10C in the north and 10 to 13C in the south.

Friday
Still quite windy across eastern parts of Scotland and England today. Rain across northern Scotland is expected to move into southern Scotland in the afternoon. A number of showers are possible around North Sea coasts. Central and western parts of England along with Northern Ireland should have a dry, bright day with variable cloud and sunnier spells. Another area of rain is expected to sink south into most places tonight with snow showers for the hills of northern Scotland. Maximum temperatures of just 5 to 7C for Scotland, 9 to 12C elsewhere.
