Snow showers for some A brighter cooler day seiten=4 abk=focus
Thursday
Still some remnants of last nights rain hanging through southern England this morning, this perhaps not clearing away from Kent and Sussex almost until lunchtime. Following behind are brighter, drier, but much cooler conditions across Wales, the rest of England and east Scotland. For Ireland and western Scotland it will be a breezier morning with wintry showers blowing in. The showers could be heavy at times, and may produce a covering of snow. Into the afternoon there will be a tendency for the showers to become more isolated in Scotland and Ireland, although still some around, and again there will be wintry. A few showers for northwest England and the north of Wales, but these fading away. For most of the rest of England and Wales, as well as southern Ireland and eastern Scotland the afternoon will be cold, but bright with sunny spells for most. Temperatures in the afternoon around 4C in northern England, to 9C in southern England, but feeling cold in the wind.
Thursday Night
The showers mainly fading away through this evening. This leads to a chilly evening with largely clear skies over many parts of the country. Cloud will already be on the increase across Scotland though as will the wind. It will be before midnight that rain arrives in the west and the wind picks up to be at gale or severe gale force; gusts could reach 80mph. The rain then spreads to all parts of Scotland as the severe gales sweep eastwards. Periods of rain across Ireland and northwest England too, where it will also be windy with gales. To the south it stays windy, but overall should be dry, apart from drizzle affecting the west of Wales. Temperatures down to 2 or 3C, before rising later as the wind and milder air arrives.
Friday
A breezy day again on Friday. High pressure is going to be through central France, with a brisk west to southwest flow blowing through the UK and Ireland. Winds are likely to be to gale force across parts of Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland. A cold front lying through Scotland will bring outbreaks of rain here, most over western hills. To the south there will still be a fair amount of cloud, although through southern Wales and the southern half of England some sunny spells may develop. Temperatures will be rising to 10C over southern England, 4C in northern Scotland.
Saturday
A cloudier day for many of us on Saturday, and the winds probably lighter too. There will be some drizzle around western coasts of Wales and England, as well as southern England, with some fog on the hills here. More persistent rain over western and southern Scotland, where it stays breezy. Inland a few brighter spells may come through the cloud, notably through the Midlands, East Anglia and southeast England. Eastern Ireland may have some sunny spells too, and it shouldn't be too bad for Orkney and Shetland. Highs around 5C in Orkney, 11C in the Midlands.
