Cloud increasing, rain later Gales on Thursday seiten=4 abk=focus
Wednesday
There may still be some rain affecting Kent this morning, but this will be clearing away quickly. It will then be a fine start to the day over much of England and Wales. Good spells of sunshine, but also some icy patches at first. Later in the morning a few showers could affect the far northwest of England. More in the way of cloud across Ireland and Scotland with some heavy showers in the west and north, these falling as snow over the high ground. Winds increasing across Scotland and Ireland, those speeds to gale force. Feeling cold everywhere in the wind.
This afternoon becomes windy and cold across the whole of Wales, Scotland and northern England with gusts to gale force. The showers may merge to more persistent rain cross Scotland and Ireland, with some outbreaks of rain or drizzle reaching northwest England and perhaps even the west coasts of Wales by dark. For most of England and Wales it is going to be dry with sunny spells, although the cloud increasing. A much colder day with highs around 5 or 6C for much of the country.
Wednesday Night
The winds increasing overnight into Thursday. Outbreaks of rain will be moving into Scotland and Ireland, with the winds increasing to gale force in the north. This rain becomes heavier across Ireland and southern Scotland through the early hours, with rain pushing into northern England and Wales too. Severe gales are likely over southern Ireland and Wales as well as northern England, and we could see winds to 80mph in places. Rain may turn to snow over the Scottish hills. Much of southern and southeast England should stay dry, although will become increasingly cloudy and windy. Lows of 1C in northern Scotland, 7C in southern England.
Thursday
Thursday sees a wet and windy start to the day. Severe gales across much of England and Wales, with some heavy bursts of rain sweeping through northern England and Ireland, then into northern England, Wales and the Midlands through the morning. The rain turning to snow on it's northern edge with a risk of some heavy snow over the higher Pennines. The rain soon arriving in southern England too, with further gales here. Much colder, brighter conditions follow into the north this afternoon, but heavy snow showers are likely over much of Scotland. By then the rain will be through the southern Midlands, East Anglia and southern England, with a chance of that turning to snow before it clears away. Temperatures rising to 9C in the south, but nearer 3C in northern Scotland and turning much colder through the day.
Friday
A much colder day across the whole of the UK and Ireland through Friday. Frequent snow showers will be affecting the coasts of Scotland, eastern England, Wales and Ireland. The snow showers may be heavy at times, the most frequent of them over northern and eastern Scotland and northeast England, where they will be accompanied by gale force winds. A covering of snow is likely in many parts of the north and east, and there is a risk of a covering in west Wales too. More inland areas should be drier and brighter with sunny spells, but feeling bitterly cold. Temperatures at just 1 to 3C.
