Breezy with showers Gales, heavy rain tonight seiten=4 abk=focus

Monday
Any early residual rain near the North Sea coasts of Scotland and north east England should soon clear away leaving much of Britain fine and dry with sunny spells. But cloud will increase to bring some heavy showers to Northern Ireland and the western coasts of England, Scotland and Wales. In the afternoon more showers in the west are expected to spread into many central and eastern areas though some places will escape the showers. With the cold air across Scotland, some of the showers will be wintry over the hills. Highs of 2 to 5C for Scotland, 6 to 9C for England and Wales.

Monday Night
It becomes windy as outbreaks of heavy rain across south west England sweep north east into Northern Ireland, Wales and into the West Midlands. Elsewhere it looks fair and dry. Overnight gales will affect England and Wales as the heavy and persistent rain spreads into all areas with snow over the Highlands. Gusts of 60 mph are likely in the south. So a milder night to come in the south with lows down to 0 to 3C in the north and 5 to 10C in the south.

Tuesday
A windy, blustery day across the country and largely cloudy with rain across Scotland and northern England and showers elsewhere. In the afternoon there will be some brighter spells coming along for many areas but still lots of showers will be there and these will be locally heavy, perhaps merging into a longer spell of rain across central and southern England. Again snow is likely to fall across the Scottish Mountains for a time before changing over to rain. Most of the showers fade by tonight with a risk of a frost in the north. Expect highs of 6 to 13C.

Wednesday
Just a few showers this morning for north west Scotland otherwise a dry, fine morning for most places with lots of crisp, sunshine. During the course of the afternoon an area of rain will move in across Northern Ireland reaching Wales and Cumbria before the afternoon is out. Bright and dry to the east with sunnier spells. Rain sweeps in across all parts this evening then clears south west England overnight. Highs of 6 to 11C.
