Cold, plenty of sun A severe frost overnight seiten=4 abk=focus

Monday
A bitterly cold morning to come over all parts of the country. There will be some cloud and some outbreaks of sleet and snow affecting many southern parts of England and Wales, the emphasis for this towards the southeast. Icy roads and pavements will make for a treacherous journey to work or school. For much of central and northern England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland the morning will start cold but very sunny. The afternoon sees it staying bitterly cold over all parts of the country, but there will be lots of sunshine around as well. High temperatures at just 1 or 2C over much of the country, perhaps to 5C in the far southwest.

Monday Night
Clear skies and light winds tonight mean that a widespread frost is going to be forming. Temperatures will be falling sharply and there will be some ice to watch out for on roads and pavements. Things may be a little breezier over the far southeast and south of England so here not quite as cold. Later in the night cloud will increase through western and northern Scotland. Temperatures down to -8C over rural England, Wales and Scotland.

Tuesday
A fine but very cold start to the morning for many of us. There is the threat of a few freezing fog patches, but these should clear away to leave another fine and sunny day for most of England, Wales and southern Scotland as well as Ireland. Thicker cloud for central and northern Scotland with some outbreak of drizzly rain here in the afternoon, falling as snow on the hills. High at 6C in western Scotland but for most of the country temperatures will be struggling to reach 0C.

Wednesday
Another bitterly cold night for the southern half of England, Wales and southern Ireland. Low temperatures by the morning, under clear skies at around -7 to -9C. Thicker cloud lying across Northern Ireland and northern England will bring some cloud and the threat of some sleet or snow during the day. This mainly light and not amounting to much. The cloud thickening through East Anglia in the morning with the chance of some drizzle. Western Scotland and the north of Ireland may also see some patchy rain. Tops at 1 to 4C at best and feeling bitterly cold for many.
