Bitterly cold Rain, sleet and snow spreading south seiten=4 abk=focus

Tuesday
A bitterly cold, icy and frosty morning to come across much of England, Northern Ireland and Wales with a severe frost to start the day. Here it's a dry, bright morning with long sunny spells. Across northern Scotland icy will be windier and cloudier with outbreaks of rain, preceded by snow. In the afternoon this spreads into all of Scotland. Continued dry and sunny but very cold for England and Wales where some places may not see temperatures moving above the freezing mark. Expect maximum temperatures of just -1 to 3C.

Tuesday Night
Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow across Scotland will push down into northern parts of England and North Wales in the evening then into all but the far south of England. Here it will remain dry with a severe frost likely. Expect lows of -3 to -7C in the south and 0 to +2C in the north.

Wednesday
A cloudier day to come across much of the United Kingdom with a few wintry showers over northern Scotland this morning. Elsewhere expect sporadic outbreaks of patchy rain and sleety that shouldn't amount to much. In the afternoon eastern parts of England should become dry and brighter but staying dull and drizzly out in the west. Not quite as cold tonight with lots of cloud across the west. Eastern areas will see some clear spells allowing a frost to develop. Highs of 1 to 5C.

Thursday
A bit less cold today. For Northern Ireland, East Anglia, parts of the Midlands and the south of England it will be a dry bright day with sunnier spells. For the rest of the United Kingdom it's largely cloudy with some patchy light rain at times. Overnight skies clear from all except the north of Scotland allowing a widespread, sharp frost to form. Highs of 2 to 6C with light winds.
