Rain edges into west Turning colder in easy seiten=4 abk=focus
Thursday
A dull start to the morning over much of the country. There will be some spots of rain and drizzle around, especially over eastern parts of Wales, the Midlands, central southern England and northeast England. Further rain affects western Ireland, and here it could become heavy at times through the morning. Drizzly bits too for the east coasts of Scotland, and rather murky for many areas too. By late morning brighter skies should start to appear in the east and south of England, these lasting into the afternoon and spreading west. It will become sunny through the southeastern corner of the country later, these sunny spells perhaps making it to the Midlands and central southern England. Elsewhere it stays cloudy. rain through Ireland, but generally dry elsewhere. The southeast wind picks up through the day, become strong and gusting to gale force across Ireland. Turning colder through the southeast as the brighter weather arrives, highs of 5C here, nearer 8C over Northern Ireland.
Thursday Night
Clear skies and staying dry through this evening over East Anglia, the southeast and through many eastern parts of the Midlands. Cold here too with a slight frost. Further west cloud is going to be thicker and it will be a wet night for most of Ireland, parts of western Scotland and the far southwest of England. Lighter rain edging into Wales. Staying rather murky in the west and dry elsewhere. Lows near -1C in sheltered parts of northeast England, near 4C in the cloudier west.
Friday
A wet day will be experienced by much of the country today. Heavy periods of rain will be extending across Wales, much of England, Scotland and affecting the east of Ireland. The persistent nature of this rain could lead to some localised flooding in places, especially over southern facing slopes and hills. East Anglia and the far southeast should be drier, but cold. Western Ireland should stay dry too, and it will be milder here. A fresh southeast breeze blowing everywhere with temperatures at a cold 3 or 4C through much of central and eastern England, nearer 10C through Ireland.
Saturday
Localised flooding presents further problems over western Scotland and Ireland as well as western Wales through Saturday morning. Increasingly the rain turns to snow over the Highlands, Grampians and Southern Uplands. The rain will be steady throughout the morning, and it is this rather than any heavy rain that will cause there to be lots of water on the roads and pavements. Most of England, away from the northwest, should be dry, although it will be cloud and is going to be feeling cold in the sharp southeast breeze. Mild in Ireland at 8C, but much colder for central and eastern England at 3C.
