Severe gales for Scotland Fine to the south seiten=4 abk=focus

Thursday
A cloudy start to the morning across southeast England where there could be a few showers on the hills. For the rest of England and Wales, as well as eastern Scotland the morning should be starting fine with plenty of sunshine and much lighter winds than recently. More cloud for western Scotland and Northern Ireland, a few showers breaking out here as the morning wears on. The afternoon sees the far southeast of England holding onto some cloud, but it should be dry here. Heavy showers will be merging to more persistent rain over western Scotland and the northwest of Ireland. Elsewhere it should be a dry afternoon with some good sunny spells. The best of the sunshine across northeast England and the Midlands. Winds increasing in the afternoon again, with severe gales in western Scotland and Ireland. Highs at 19C in the sunshine to the south, nearer 11C in the wind and rain over western Scotland.

Thursday Night
It stays fairly cloud in the far southeast, although it should be dry and the cloud may break later on. Clear spells of most of England and Wales at first. However, the rain which will be into western Scotland and Ireland will be slipping southwards through the night to be through northern England, Wales and perhaps the far southwest of England by the morning. Drier weather follows through eastern Scotland and the east and south of Ireland, but heavy showers will be affecting western parts of Scotland. Here it is going to be very windy with severe gales in places. Lows near 3 or 4C in the clearer skies following the rain over Scotland 7 or 8C in the south.

Friday
The band of rain lies through the Midlands and southwest England on Friday morning, very slowly shifting eastwards and becoming lighter as it goes. A dry start in the far southeast with some sunny spells, but tending to cloud over here in the afternoon as some showery rain arrives. Sunshine and showers for most of Scotland, northern England, Wales and Ireland on Friday, with some heavy showers on western Scotland. The winds easing slightly later in the day although there will be to gale force in the west. Highs at 12 to 16C.

Saturday
Quite a bright start to Saturday for most of the country. There will be some sunny spells around, but a tendency for cloud to develop, spoiling the sunshine and leaving many places with a rather cloudy afternoon. It should be generally dry. The exception is western Scotland and western Ireland where there could be some showers, and if these occur they could be heavy at times. Highs at 12 to 17C.
