Stormy, heavy rain Risk of flooding seiten=4 abk=focus
Tuesday
Concern again focuses on northwest England and southwest Scotland today. It is going to be a wet day here, heavy periods of rain throughout, and the risk of a further 100mm of rain falling over high ground. If you are affected by flooding in these areas already, this may well become worse and so you are urged to monitor warnings and flood watches from the Environment Agency. Elsewhere it is a dull start to the day for many with rain over central and eastern Scotland, drizzle for much of England and Wales, especially in the west. The winds are going to be picking up too, becoming severe gale force in western areas, and gusting to over 70mph on the coasts. This afternoon sees much of England (away from the northwest) becoming dry, although cloudy, although always a risk of drizzle on the hills. More drizzle and low cloud for western coasts of Wales and southwest England as more persistent rain affects Scotland and Ireland. A very windy afternoon, widespread gales and 70mph gusts in the west. Highs at 10 to 12C.
Tuesday Night
Overnight the rain continues in northwest England and southwest Scotland for a time, as a band of heavy rain crosses Ireland. This heavier rain then passes through Wales by midnight, and then across England through the early hours, reaching east Anglia and the southeast before morning. It is going to be very windy ahead of the rain, with gusts to 60 to 70mph. Behind it the winds ease for a short time, but then a region of even stronger winds reaches Ireland and western Scotland by morning, Gusts could exceed 80mph by then. Heavy showers follow to western Wales, with the threat of more persistent rain in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Lows near 5 to 8C.
Wednesday
An area of very stormy, wet weather will be passing through Scotland, northern England and Wales. The rain could be heavy with gusts in excess of 80mph. The strongest of the winds not easing until evening. The wetter weather clears into the North Sea late in the day with heavy showers following behind. Elsewhere the day will be very windy with further showers and again these could be heavy. There will be some sunny spells here and there, best of them in central and southern England. More persistent rain at times Wales, western England and Ireland. Highs at 8 to 11C.
Thursday
A cool and windy day. The winds are again going to be to gale force in the north and west. A mix of sunny spells and showers for most of the country. Showers will be at their heaviest over western parts of the country. There is a risk of thunderstorms here. To the south and east the showers will be less frequent, although there will still be some heavy ones around. Highs at 6 to 10C.
